Hi, friends,

Saturday, January 18, 2020 beginning at 9:30, I’ll be presenting a rather fast demonstration on two fun ways of using watercolor - atomizing and pouring. I’d love for you to try it if you are so inclined. I’m providing below a materials list for the day. You will also need to bring a photo (preferably in black and white) that’s not too complicated. I’m providing a photo of one I’ll be working on to give you an idea of what type of subject to choose. If you’d like to print this one out and use it, feel free to do so.

The event is free, however donations are welcome.
There will be a donation jar at the Member Gathering
Or you can donate online by clicking here

Our Executive Director, Lindsay Ainsworth, will be holding a Q&A during lunch.
Bring your brown bag to "No Question too Small, No Answer too Long."

Be sure to bring a simple image!

You will need to bring:

•¼ sheet of all cotton 140 lb or 300 lb (I will be using 300) cold pressed watercolor paper. You may choose Arches, Fabriano, Saunders, etc. – choose an all cotton paper. Please don’t buy Strathmore or Canson sheet paper. It doesn’t respond the same. Arches full sheets are at Hobby Lobby, usually 8.99/18.99 per sheet before your coupon! ;) Watercolor blocks work great for this, too. Go ahead and transfer your image on the ¼ sheet (11”x15”) making sure your marks are fairly dark. Also, bring some scrap pieces of paper to practice on – the backs of paintings you’re not please with will be just fine.

•A 5ml tube of each of these five colors (make sure you are choosing artist grade paints!) – Antwerp or Prussian Blue, Cobalt Blue, Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone Rose, Lamp Black – You may substitute other colors if you already have them but choose a deeper yellow with more gold and a rosier red.

•Containers for water – a couple of Quart sized jars will work just fine

•Five small glass or Tupperware containers with good, sealing lids (about the size of a pimento jar)

•Palette – if you don’t have one, a deviled egg plate works great!

•#14 or #12 round brush (these need to be thick, thirsty watercolor brushes – I prefer the Silver Black Velvet brand. They are an inexpensive alternative to sable, hold lots of water, have good spring and come to a crisp point. Hobby Lobby and Michael’s also carry good artist quality brushes)

•1” or 1 ½” flat brush-same as above

•An old brush to use for masking and one you won’t mind discarding

•Masking fluid – I prefer pebeo because it can be dried with a hairdryer but Windsor Newton makes one as well and it’s available at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby

•Roll of masking tape

•Spray bottle for water

•Atomizer, if you have one – they can be ordered from Cheap Joe’s or Blick for less than $10. I’m not certain if Art Outfitters has these?

•A plastic tub or disposable sheet pan for our pouring project

•A drop cloth and a roll of paper towels. You may bring an old towel to cover the floor as well. This is messy business.

•Hairdryer

Looking forward to seeing you all!
